HUNTINGTON, WV (WOWK) – The Cabell County School Board has announced that it is planning a fall 2022 breakthrough date for the new Meadows Elementary School building.
At present, the preliminary design for the school is still in progress, as last week it was presented to the school board for approval.
According to the school board, the design architect is working hand-in-hand with community members to determine the best way to allow this new building to serve the entire community.
What will this new building consist of?
“We have an architect with ZMM Architects. He worked with the Meadows Elementary design team – which includes the principal, some teachers, and community members – who worked through the process to design a school around what their intended teaching practices and methods would be. . So they’re in the field designing the facility based on what they need for their students,” says Tim Hardesty, assistant superintendent of District Operations and Support Division for the Cabell County School District.
He says he hopes the community will benefit from the new building and that it will present new opportunities that the current building cannot support.
How will this benefit the community?
“Although we are doing amazing things – and the students and staff are amazing – we are currently confined to a very small area at Meadows. We’re going to a much bigger area where we can not only have a building for the students, but we can also have some really great opportunities for different extracurricular events and that sort of thing,” says Hardesty.
The multi-million dollar project is expected to be completed and open by spring 2024.
