Two people died in what investigators say was a murder-suicide shooting Tuesday inside the building that houses the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office, authorities said.
A Dallas Police spokesperson told NBC 5 that officers were responding to reports of an active shooter shortly before 5 p.m. at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Building located along the 2300 block of the North Stemmons Highway.
About 30 minutes later, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins told reporters outside the building that it appeared a gunman had shot someone before committing suicide.
There was no longer a threat to the public, Jenkins said.
Officers were searching the building and the nearby Dallas County Health and Human Services building as a precaution, Jenkins said. Both buildings had been evacuated.
The names of those who died will be released after their families have been notified, Jenkins said. He added that bereavement counselors will be provided to staff working there.
No other information was immediately available.
