The poultry sector, which has a market value of around Rs 1.5 lakh crore, has requested that the Center establish a body similar to MPEDA (Marine Products Exports Development Authority) to promote exports.

“The government created MPEDA to ensure that the market for maritime products becomes competitive from start to finish. What are their methods to achieve this? They make sure that individuals receive the correct germplasm. Then they organized training programs for farmers on improved management practices, ”said BS Yadav, Managing Director of Godrej Agrovet Ltd, on the sidelines of the two-day Indian National Symposium CLFMA (Compound Livestock Feed Manufacturers).

According to him, the government has also provided processors with the right skills, market access and incentives. “This is exactly what we need. “Our chicken products have a large market outside the country, especially in regions like the Gulf,” he added. “They will help us be competitive by helping us better manage disease. He said: “The whole value chain management would be done in collaboration with the government.

Limited exports

He claimed that the country’s chicken exports were only around Rs 435 crore. Compared to the whole industry in the country, it was a drop in the ocean.

“There is a lot of potential here. Individual players will find it difficult to capitalize on this enormous potential. It will be easier if a sovereign country does it, ”he said, adding that the industry did not want export subsidies indefinitely. “For a few years we will need the help of the government. After that, the industry would be self-sufficient, ”he said.

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), based in Kochi, is a Crown corporation. The Marine Products Export Development Authority Act of 1972 established it on August 24, 1972. (No. 13 of 1972). The statutory responsibility of MPEDA is broad, encompassing all types of fishing, increasing exports, setting standards, processing, marketing, extension and training in many areas of the business.

MPEDA is a coordinating agency for several central and state government entities involved in fish production and related activities. It is part of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.
