Storm damage reported in Iowa

Severe thunderstorms with gusts over 60 mph caused extensive damage in central Iowa on Saturday evening. A building in Des Moines collapsed on 30th Street and a barn in Slater was destroyed. A tornado was reported 2 miles west of Slater. In Winterset, the roof of the fire station reportedly collapsed and water ran through it. So far, no injuries have been reported. Winterset is again facing storm damage after a tornado ripped through the area on March 5. Trees have fallen and some houses are without electricity. Additional reports indicate that trailers were overturned at Riverside Raceway. There were at least two tractor-trailers that rolled over onto I-35. A tractor-trailer blocked the roadway and slowed traffic just before 8 p.m. The Iowa State Patrol responded quickly and the freeway was able to open soon after. Thousands of people lost power. As of 8:15 p.m., more than 8,000 Polk County customers were without power.
