MoIAT, EDB and Edge sign agreement to boost defense manufacturing

The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technologies (MoIAT), Emirates Development Bank (EDB) and defense technology company Edge Group have signed an agreement to boost manufacturing in the defense sector.

The agreement, signed at the Make it in the Emirates forum held in Abu Dhabi, includes funding of up to 1 billion dirhams ($272.29 million) provided by EDB to support and accelerate the industrialization of Edge offers, MoIAT said in a statement on Tuesday.

Under the agreement, MoIAT will help Edge expand global exports of more than 40 domestically produced products and solutions.

The MoIAT will also provide Edge with a “strong roadmap” to become one of the “world’s most financially strong providers of military hardware and technology,” the statement said.

The agreement will support the diversification of the UAE’s economy, achieve sustainable development and strengthen the country’s value proposition, said Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies.

“The ministry and EDB are committed to supporting leading domestic companies like Edge to capitalize on growth opportunities in the country. The funding will support Edge’s efforts to adopt advanced technologies and manufacturing processes and help to increase its exports, to support the growth of the national economic market,” he said.

Launched in 2019, the Edge defense technology group brings together more than 20 entities in four main clusters, including platforms and systems, missiles and weapons, electronic warfare and cyber technologies, and commerce and mission support.

It works to develop sovereign capabilities for global export, working with frontline operators and adopting advanced technologies such as autonomous capabilities, cyber-physical systems, advanced propulsion systems, robotics and materials. smart.

Edge also collaborates with international partners to co-develop intellectual property and future products, with a focus on small and medium enterprises and start-ups.

The latest agreement is in line with the Industry 4.0 initiative and aims to support the growth of the defense sector, one of the key industries of the future, MoIAT said.

The Industry 4.0 initiative, launched by MoIAT last year, is designed to accelerate the integration of 4IR solutions and applications – such as cloud, artificial intelligence and Internet of Things – into the country’s industrial sector. .

The initiative aims to boost manufacturing by 30% and add 25 billion dirhams to the country’s economy by 2031.
