MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – A Meridian Community College program has captured the attention of more than 200,000 people and more than 100 manufacturing companies on LinkedIn.

The Precision Machining/Advanced Manufacturing program receives many calls from companies to recruit their graduates. Graduates are offered top salaries, signing bonuses, and even money for moving expenses.

“We have 24 companies within a hundred mile radius of Meridian that hire us regularly. As a result, a person on LinkedIn with over 200,000 views. I had businesses from all over the United States. Each state contacted us. There are big names in the industry like Gulf Stream, Glock, Space X, BLUSA, and the list goes on. There are jobs everywhere in every state. Right now we don’t have enough students to fill all those jobs,” said program coordinator Brian Warren.

This post highlighted a student who goes above and beyond his call of duty. Little did he know that this position would put him and the program in the spotlight.

“A few weeks ago, I was walking to the store at the end of the day. I noticed that there was a student cleaning the machine without anyone telling him. I thought that would be a good thing to show because all you hear about these days is young people not wanting to work. I want to show them here is a young man who wants to work. I put a little message of him cleaning the machine. I put a description of it, outlining his work ethic. It really touched a nerve. Our posts normally get a few thousand views. Before the end of the day, my phone and her phone’s batteries nearly died due to people texting and receiving notifications. I spoke with 100 companies, probably 150, and the position is still ongoing,” Warren said.

That student was Michael Bishop, who said he was shocked at the attention he was getting from the post. Bishop’s phone was exploding with companies that wanted to offer him a promising career.

“As for the number of companies, I say it had to be at least 20 to 24. It was huge how fast they came. We couldn’t follow. I ended up picking one up with a company called TNS Precision Manufacturing in Brandon, Mississippi. I am extremely happy with my decision. They are great people and a great company,” said Bishop.

Bishop said this program changed his life.

“When I first joined this program, I worked in entry-level jobs. I never had a real career path or a defined profession. From the first day I arrived here, I I didn’t know what to expect I just knew I loved trading and I loved machining I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out I have a career now I have a specific company and place where I will work I will see new fields with a degree, and the sky is the limit where you can go It’s a good decision for me and my family I don’t couldn’t be happier,” Bishop said.

The program is housed at the Haas Advanced Manufacturing Training Center at the MCC Workforce Development Center on Highway 19. There are only 38 of these training centers worldwide and only one in the southeastern United States, and it is located at Meridian Community College.
