Lakers News: LeBron James celebrates the opening of his own building on the Nike campus – All Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers small forward LeBron James keeps opening up cool buildings. We are inside. After being first announced last year, it looks like Nike’s newest research facility, the LeBron James Innovation Center, is now open and can start innovating in a hurry!

Earlier this month, James touched down at Nike’s corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, to witness the official “grand opening” of the building that bears his name. Champagne bottles popped:

The LeBron James Innovation Center is a 750,000 square foot research facility. The Innovation Center is home to a regulation-sized basketball court, a faux-turf practice field, a soccer field, and a track.

We first mentioned the center when it was announced last fall. During this window, Complex’s Brendan Dunne glanced into space.

The 84,000 square foot Nike Sport Research Lab occupies the cantilevered top floor of the building, loaded with 400 motion capture cameras. “The NSRL is the epicenter of where we work with athletes of all levels, backgrounds, skills and sports,” said Nike Explore Team Sport Research Lab Vice President Dr. Matthew Nurse, in a statement from Nike about the release.

James has of course been in business with Nike for almost two decades, having signed with the pioneering sportswear brand after turning pro in 2003 straight out of St. Vincent-St. Marie in Akron, Ohio. The 18-time All-Star is set to release his 20th unique sneaker with the brand sometime next month, ahead of the start of his 20th NBA season.
