Kochville Township’s Last Large Vacant Building Will Be Occupied by Planet Fitness | New

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) – Saginaw Township’s Fashion Square mall is heading to auction next month.

With the mall’s future uncertain, once-vacant commercial spaces nearby are filling up.

Now that Kochville Township has filled all of its vacant buildings directly across from the mall, this could be a sign to an investor that there might be hope for the mall property.

“We’re lucky we seem to be having a bit of a resurgence right now,” said Kochville Township Manager Steve King.

This resurgence is evident along Tittabwassee Road in Kochville Township, as once vacant commercial buildings are now attracting new tenants. A few years ago, endangered businesses worried people.

“What does the future look like, what’s going on here, why do we suddenly have nearly 200,000 square feet of vacant commercial space,” King says.

Art Van closed, but Gardner White opened in the building in December.

Value City Furniture is renovating the former Toys R Us building, vacant since 2018. Value City may open this fall.

The Gander Mountain building has been vacant for a few years, but Planet Fitness will now open its new facility once that building has been renovated.

“They’re investing in the building itself, they should bring a good number of people to this commercial area, great location in Tittabawassee and I-675, we’re thrilled to have them,” he says.

King is also monitoring developments on Tittabawassee Road, where Fashion Square Mall will be auctioned on August 22, the starting bid will be $2.3 million.

A new investor could potentially repurpose the facility, but now that the Township of Kochville has filled its vacant buildings, it could be a sign that the Bay-Tittabawassee trade corridor could flourish again.

“People come from all over, within a radius of about fifty miles to come here, so if people see that the business-sized investment is there, they think things are looking up for the whole of central Michigan. “, says King.

The Fashion Square Mall auction next month does not include the Sears and Macy’s portion of the mall. These buildings have separate owners.
