Gary West Meats suspends jerky meat production

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – A local supplier of award-winning, family-owned artisanal smoked meats is suspending jerky production.

Jacksonville-based Gary West Meats, in business since 1966, sent the following statement to clients:

Thank you for being the best part of our business over the past 55 years.

Over the past 2 years, beef prices, supply shortages and staffing have become ever-changing obstacles to our production. We regret to inform you that we are suspending the production of jerky with immediate effect. Staffing and volatile beef prices made it impossible to guarantee that we could meet production. We have decided to stop regular production. We may be able to source and produce, but we are unable to guarantee this or take orders for public holidays.

Our retail store will remain open in Jacksonville, but we are shutting down jerky meat production, online sales and our gift business. We will use this fall to refresh our retail site to include a larger bottle store (liquor / beer / wine, where supply is oddly stable…), and the expansion of our sister business Horn Creek Farms. We hope that in the New Year life will regain balance and we can once again offer you our family tradition of delicious smoked meats and authentic jerky.
