In 2021, exports of diammonium phosphate from the United States fell sharply to 561,000 tons, a decrease of -39.5% compared to 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp slowdown. The pace of growth appeared the fastest in 2019 with an increase of 17% compared to the previous year. The pace of growth was most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 3.3% compared to the previous year. During the review period, exports reached record highs at $2.2 billion in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2021, the value of supplies remained at a lower level.

Mexico (136,000 tons), Brazil (103,000 tons) and Canada (93,000 tons) were the top destinations for US diammonium phosphate exports, with a combined share of 59% of total volume. These countries were followed by Colombia, Peru, Honduras and the Dominican Republic, which together accounted for an additional 32%.

In terms of value, Brazil ($50 million), Colombia ($43 million), and Canada ($40 million) appeared to be the largest markets for diammonium phosphate exported from the United States globally, together representing 55% of total exports.

Export prices by country

In 2021, the average export price of diammonium phosphate was $430 per ton, up 53% from the previous year. There were significant differences in average prices for major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($669 per ton), while the average export price to Mexico ($217 per ton) was among the lowest. From 2011 to 2021, the most notable growth rate in terms of prices was recorded for supplies in Canada, while prices for other major destinations experienced contrasting developments.

The average import price of diammonium phosphate stood at $565 per ton in 2021, up 74% from the previous year. Average prices varied somewhat between the main supplying countries.
