DGC students learn how to transform old jeans into carrier bags.
DIMAPUR, APRIL 24 (MExN): Dimapur Government College observed Earth Day on April 22 with the theme “Creating Recycling: Turning Waste into Wealth”.
The day began at 8:00 a.m. with the planting of young trees by the director and members of the innovation council, the eco and beautification club and the DGC RUSA surveillance cell.
The first session of the workshop began with a brief presentation of what Earth Day is by the Chair, Dr Hannah Tia, Assistant Professor and Fellow, RUSA, followed by a welcome speech by Dr M Libanthung Ngullie, Director, DGC.
The highlight of the first session was a presentation given by resource person Dr. Temjensangla Pongen, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, who spoke on the topic “Exhibition on Waste and Waste Management “.
The second session was fun; workshop participants experienced first-hand how to use waste productively. It included training on making paper cups from A4 paper (approx. 75 gsm) and making bowls from plantain leaves. In addition, the resource person gave advice on waste recovery by making bags from old t-shirts and old jeans, among other things.
The program ended with a vote of thanks from Anungla Aier, Associate Professor and Facilitator, Eco & Beautification Club, DGC.
