BUFFALO, NY – U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced today that Dustin Coffelt, 33, of Cheektowaga, NY, has been arrested and charged with a criminal complaint for producing and possessing child pornography. The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, a maximum of 30 years and a fine of $250,000.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Maeve E. Huggins, who is handling the case, said according to the complaint, in July 2022, the Depew Police Department received a report that Coffelt sexually abused a woman. 13-year-old girl (minor victim). A subsequent investigation determined that the alleged abuse could span several years and included communications via various social media apps and text messaging. On July 29, 2022, investigators seized Coffelt’s cell phone. Numerous sexually explicit images of the underage victim, which constitute child pornography, were recovered from the phone.

Coffelt first appeared before U.S. Investigative Judge Michael J. Roemer and is being held.

The complaint is the result of an investigation by the Depew Police Department, under Chief Jerome Miller, the Cheektowaga Police Department, under Chief Brian Gould, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Stephen Belongia.

The fact that an accused has been charged with a crime is simply an accusation and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
