MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) and Mon Health System celebrated the founding of Vandalia Health on Wednesday.

The definitive agreement creating Vandalia Health was signed on August 30, after receiving approval from all necessary regulatory and governmental review agencies. Officials said hospital staff and management will enter the new era of health care in the state with a shared vision to make the highest quality care accessible and affordable for all who need it.

“We have a northern market strategy. Everyone knows that what happens in Morgantown might not be the same as what happens in the Teays Valley, so we really need to focus on the laser. [not only] what does the local community we are in need, but where can we find synergies and programs,” said David Goldberg, president and CEO of Mon Health Systems and executive vice president from Vandalia Health.

The new Vandalia Health includes five hospitals in its flagship: Mon Health Medical Center, Preston Memorial Hospital, Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and Marion Neighborhood Hospital.

“When we decided we were going to start Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital in Marion County for all the reasons we know as Marion was losing health care we stepped up, WVU Medicine stepped up and now you have two hospitals,” Goldberg said. . “We looked at where else there are areas that need better access, we think the scalability of medical services, and Harrison County has definitely established itself as an area, the location, we are coming to Charles Pointe.”

Goldberg said the new neighborhood hospital will be built in less than two years and has secured state approval for the facility.
