The Pizitz, one of Birmingham city center’s most iconic buildings, is up for sale.
The Cushman & Wakefield Sunbelt Multi-Family Advisory Group announced today that they have the exclusive listing of The Pizitz, a 143-unit luxury apartment community with 41,679 square feet of commercial space on the ground, mezzanine and lower levels.
In 2023, Le Pizitz will be 100 years old. Built in 1923, the building was once the flagship department store of the Alabama-based family-run Pizitz department store chain.
Closed in 1988, the building was restored and refurbished for $70 million starting in 2014. The building reopened in 2016 after 24 months of work. In addition to apartments, the building has added several amenities, including:
- The Pizitz Food Hall, home to 13 food stalls and a bar
- Forge, a coworking space
- Two 100-seat cinemas with lounges, a bar and a kiosk as well as a classroom and administrative offices for the Sidewalk Film Festival
Location, location, location
The Pizitz is located along the 2nd Avenue North corridor and serves as a connection point between the bustling business district and surrounding attractions such as the McWane Science Center, Lyric Theatre, Alabama Theatre, Regions Field and Railroad Park .
