BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — Bakersfield College (BC) will host a Manufacturing Day event at its Panorama campus on September 30. The event will take place at the BC Outdoor Theater and will begin at 9:30 am.
Manufacturing Day is a national event organized by the manufacturing institution dedicated to inspire students to consider joining the manufacturing industry. According to the Manufacturing Institution, approximately four million manufacturing jobs in the United States will need labor over the next decade.
“This is a great opportunity for our local students to create their own future,” said British Columbia Dean of Education Anthony Cordova. “Kern County offers incredible opportunities for career growth and Career Education BC is ready to help students from the start with the career exploration process, a comprehensive network of student support services, through ‘to obtaining a high quality and affordable education.”
Companies Amazon, Bolthouse, Chevron and Stratolaunch System will partner with BC for the event, along with 30 local businesses. Students from local middle and high schools will participate in the event.
“A lot of these industries are tech-heavy, but also really practical,” Cordova added. “We find that many students are very excited about the options once they start to learn more. And to go further, our industry partners also benefit from the connection and defense of their industry. This is something truly bigger than I originally imagined. With events like these, the worlds of industry and education come together to raise the hand workforce, creating a more diverse workforce and streamlining the education-to-career pipeline.
