Text description provided by the architects. The project is located in one of the main streets of a well-known residential area with commercial corridors named Pasdaran, located in the northeast of Tehran. During the design process of this modern commercial building, we strived to strike a balance between meeting today’s modern office needs and benefiting from prior design knowledge in Iran. This action led us to design an innovative property with an integrated identity. The project is a six-story building with a retail apartment and five office floors.

Design inspiration is taken from decorative historic brick patterns and emerged with sleek bent metal panels. Multiple layers of different materials shape the skin of the facade. Each of the two main layers slides separately over the mass of the building to create the facade. The bottom layer is made of bent metal panels cut into the placement of the windows, and the top layer is formed of a zigzag brick pattern with vertical cuts, which creates perpendicular gaps in the position of the windows.

The combination of these two layers created the whole harmonious facade. The zigzag pattern is taken from the brick copings of historic buildings in Iran. To implement the bricks, we used laser cut sheets at the top and bottom of each vertical section of the facade. Then vertical reinforcing bars were fixed at regular intervals. In the end, pinned bricks with well-aligned reinforcements.

The composition of materials and the combination of colors are essential elements of our design process; thus, the color of the brick is precisely chosen as the same color as the famous red brick of the old buildings in Tehran. The metal panels are colored matte smoky gray to create a modern office look that coordinates well with the brick color. Additionally, we used a unique local granite stone at street level, which is directly in view of passing pedestrians and visitors to the building. At the main entrance, we used curved wooden panels in warm colors in harmony with the granite stones to make welcoming visitors pleasant.
