George Troquato to expand winery portfolio to showcase California’s best wineries

SAN JOSE, California, October 13, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Alamitos Vineyards, a winery and vineyard located at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains in the New Almaden enclave, has established George Troquato as a wine consultant for their growing portfolio. Troquato will bring its expertise in sourcing grapes from the best vineyards of California to craft unique vineyard wines focused on the Santa Lucia Highlands, Stags Leap District and Coombsville terroir.

Third generation winegrower, George Troquato brings 30 years of winemaking experience from California Central coast. He crafted the first five vintages of Testarossa wines in the 1990s, laying the foundations for a successful decades-long wine program, and spent three decades leading the Cinnabar Winery winemaking team. Troquato’s winemaking philosophy begins in the vineyard, guided by the understanding that sustainable soils and strategic wine-growing practices lay the foundation for a minimal intervention style of winemaking.

The winery will continue to produce a Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Touriga Nacional Rosé estate under the direction of the winemaker. Peter Kirchner. The first vintage of Troquato at the top of the new grape variety program will include a Malbec from Coombsville, an AVA from southern Napa Valley influenced by San Pablo Bay, a Merlot from the Stags Leap district, an iconic AVA nestled in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, and a pinot noir from the highlands of Santa Lucia, a narrow AVA south of Monterey. For Troquato timing and good wine-making practices are key, which he achieves by working only with small vineyards and dedicated farmers.

Coleman and Maune have a rich history of winemaking and farming in their families. Shaun’s grandfather John Enos Vargas was the winegrower of several pioneers California wineries in the early 1900s.
