Aerojet Rocketdyne set to expand in Huntsville with new manufacturing plant



HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Aerojet Rocketdyne on Monday announced the expansion of a 379,000 square foot manufacturing facility near Huntsville International Airport.

The facility will provide employment opportunities, office space and increase manufacturing capacity for the nation’s defense production needs.

According to a statement released by Aerojet Rocketdyne, the expansion further strengthens Huntsville as Aerojet Rocketdyne’s inert manufacturing center of excellence and better positions the Camden, Arkansas site to support the continued growth of vital energy capabilities for programs. defense in several areas.

“Huntsville has been home to Aerojet Rocketdyne’s defense headquarters since its founding, and with this expansion of both talent and space, we are excited to increase our presence in Rocket City,” said Eileen P. Drake, CEO and President of Aerojet Rocketdyne.

In 2016, Huntsville was chosen as the headquarters for the Defense Business Unit due to engineering expertise in the region, proximity to its government and major customers, and support from local and state leaders.

In the six years since its inception as Aerojet Rocketdyne’s defense headquarters, the region’s employee footprint has grown 700%. According to the release, more than 800 team members are currently supplying National Defense in Huntsville.

The facility is expected to be operational in 2023.
